Dev Diary part 2 – Behind the scenes at Runic Games!

Dive in to what makes Runic Games tick with candid, in-studio interviews with Max and Erich Schaefer, Greg Brown, Jason Beck, and Patrick Blank. This video focuses on the nitty gritty of the tools used to develop Torchlight and why, how the level editor works, and what building the game looks like from a Developer standpoint.

For Immediate Release: Torchlight available on Steam beginning October 27th.

Steam users, rejoice! No more waiting for Torchlight: Runic Games Inc, developer of the Action-RPG Torchlight, is thrilled to announce their new agreement with Steam, allowing players to download Torchlight on the first day it’s available, October 27th.

Previously, and as formerly announced at PAX, Torchlight would be in limited release through the Official site www.torchlightgame.com and through Perfect World’s portal on October 27, with download capability on Steam only available 30 days later.

“It’s important for us to make Torchlight as widely available as possible. Steam is an enormous outlet that many players use exclusively – we’re big fans ourselves – so we are really happy that it will be on Steam starting day one,” says CEO Max Schaefer.

Torchlight will be available for digital download on October 27th, through Steam and www.torchlightgame.com.

Hi, I’m Greg Brown and I’m the jerk Tools Engineer who’s leaving the country for two weeks during launch month. When I’m not recklessly abandoning my duties at Runic, I do what I can to make sure the team has to do as little as they must to create the best game ever created. Before Runic I worked at on Mythos at Flagship and prior to that I worked at WildTangent with many others here at Runic. While at WildTangent I worked on that side to make an unofficial mod manager for Fate shortly after the game was released. It was incredibly fun to see the sorts of things people created with that game, and we’ve done our best to keep that in mind while making Torchlight.

I feel incredibly lucky to be in the position in which I’ve found myself. The other day I was up getting coffee, thinking to myself what about what I wanted to get done that day, and on my way back to my desk I glanced around at our small little office and realized that there was no other place I’d rather be and nothing I’d rather be doing.

I’m very proud of what we’ve accomplished with both Torchlight and Preditor and hope you’ll enjoy them.
