Don't you just want to take it home and put it on your desk or a shelf or something? Well, now you can! We are thrilled to announce we will be bringing Sprite Papercraft kits to PAX-East. Gabe Jackson, one of the character artists here at Runic, describes how his papercraft obsession led to the most charming swag ever.

Meet the Artist: Gabe Jackson

Gabe wide

Hi I’m Gabe Jackson. I’m a Seattle based artist working in the game industry as a character artist. I’ve been in the field for around 12 years now. I enjoy a large variety of mediums but focus a lot on photography. I love to shoot architecture and portraiture. Lately I am stepping outside of the digital realm and into the antiquated world of analog photography. It’s a blast!

I’m the type of person who is always looking for something new to learn or experience when it comes to art. I think it keeps my imagination fresh and my sense of humor ripe! I never get bored because I’ve always got some new idea for a project to pick up.

Aside from photography I have invested a lot of my spare time into my hobby of papercraft. I have casually done papercraft since 2009, but in the last few years I have been taking it much more seriously and researching ways to introduce it to the public. I first learned of papercraft from a colleague I immediately became obsessed with it. It meshed so well with what I was into as an artist and was, to me, the next level of achievement. I had spent my college years developing a unified style between my 2D and 3D work only to discover a new medium which could make my work tangible and real, something someone could hold and see with their own eyes and not just through a computer screen. I still believe I am riding that initial wave of inspiration.

I spent the next few years teaching myself the process, from learning the software (http://www.tamasoft.co.jp/pepakura-en/) to finding the best production methods, and honing the skill. I’d love to show you what else I’ve been up to but it’s absolutely %100 top secret, so you’ll just have to stay tuned! In the meantime you can enjoy the fan art that I made for Runic!
